Oral History Project

In celebration of Friends Seminary's rich history and vibrant community, the School was proud to partner with StoryCorps for a five-year oral history project. Founded by Friends alumnus Dave Isay '83, StoryCorps is a nonprofit whose mission is to provide Americans with the chance to record, share and preserve their stories. Select StoryCorps recordings are featured weekly on NPR's Morning Edition and all of their interviews are preserved at the American Folklife Center at the Library of Congress.

The goal of the Friends/StoryCorps partnership was to capture the School's history and progress in the words of alumni, parents of alumni, and faculty through Reunion 2015. Below are excerpts from the conversations recorded since our partnership began in September 2010; the full versions are preserved in the School's archives for the benefit of generations to come. We hope you enjoy listening and that these stories will bring life and color to Friends Seminary's history.
